There is a lot to a Domain Name
and VeeBee writes in cyberspace…
Most people use them every day, and just take them for granted in some respects. Domain names though are what guide us around the internet, and there is a lot more to them then meets the eye.
The first domain name was registered only 24 years ago.
It was www.symbolics.com, owned by the Symbolics, Inc.
a company who, back in the day, was a leading software
development firm with software projects designed back
in the 1980s which appear very much like modern
software designs seen today. For example, they had
developed a fully object-oriented operating system
called Genera, which today still exists as Open Genera,
for Alpha CPUs.
Their domain was registered on March 15, 1985
-- when the Internet was brand new
A simple word like “toys”, because of the huge number of searches for it daily, is worth millions of dollars. Yes!! Millions of dollars, for just a name. In a close bidding war in March, Toys ‘R’ Us bought the domain name Toys.com at auction for $5.1 million. Putting it among the top 10 most expensive domain names on record. This month Auction.com has sold for over $1.75 million.
Although there are some minor restrictions in Australia for the buying and selling of .com.au domains, the trend of domain name reselling is starting to warm up here also. Earlier this month the domain webdesign.net.au is reported to have sold for $10,000. Not a bad return on something that would have cost less than $100.
So as you type in those domain names, there is so much more to them.
